Runner Rugs

A runner does something no other shape can. It draws a hallway forward, softens the walk between rooms, and absorbs the daily traffic that wears a bare floor thin. Kelaty's runners span every style we carry — hand-knotted Vintage Kashan, high-low modern weaves, flatweave jute — in widths from roughly 60 to 80 cm and lengths from 170 to 310 cm.

Choosing the right length

Measure your hallway, then take off around 15–20 cm at each end. A margin of bare floor frames the rug and stops it reading as fitted carpet. Leave at least 10 cm of floor showing along each side too — a runner that reaches wall to wall loses the effect entirely. If your hall falls between two of our lengths, size down rather than up: a runner that stops short looks considered, one that buckles against the skirting doesn't.

Halls, kitchens and landings

Narrow galley kitchens are where a runner earns its keep, taking the standing and the spills in front of the sink and hob. On a landing, a runner defines the route between rooms without covering floorboards worth showing. Beside a bed, a pair of runners is often better judged than one large rug — warm underfoot where you actually step, and easier to lift and clean.

Wear and care

Hallways see more footfall than any other floor in the house, so pile density matters more than it does elsewhere. Every runner here lists its construction and traffic rating on the product page. Vacuum along the pile rather than across it, and rotate end to end once or twice a year so the doorway end doesn't age ahead of the rest.
