Marimekko Unikko Dark Green 132207

A dark, tonal take on Unikko: forest-green poppies on a slightly deeper green ground, with the flower centres picked out in a soft sage. From across the room it reads as a rich plain green; up close the flowers appear.

Maija Isola painted Unikko in 1964, after Marimekko's founder Armi Ratia had banned flower patterns — Isola's answer was a whole collection of graphic, pop-art florals, and Unikko has been printed continuously ever since.
