Marimekko Unikko Honey 132406

Unikko in Honey fills the rug with golden-ochre poppies, each with a bright orange and deep red centre, set on a cream ground with the familiar black buds between them. Warm, cheerful and very Scandinavian.

Maija Isola painted Unikko in 1964, after Marimekko's founder Armi Ratia had banned flower patterns — Isola's answer was a whole collection of graphic, pop-art florals, and Unikko has been printed continuously ever since.
