Borage takes its name from the star-flowered herb Morris knew from English kitchen gardens, and the design keeps that quiet, scattered quality rather than the dense all-over repeat of his better-known patterns.
This is the top of the Morris & Co. rug collection. Hand-knotted in Nepal from 100% Tibetan wool — not tufted — which means every knot is tied by hand onto the warp rather than punched into a backing. There is no latex and no secondary backing at all: the rug is simply wool, which is why a hand-knotted piece outlives a tufted one by decades rather than years. The 4 mm cut pile is deliberately low, so the drawing stays crisp.
