Morris & Co Strawberry Thief Grape 027705

Morris's most famous design — thrushes stealing fruit from the kitchen garden at Kelmscott Manor, drawn in 1883 — here in a deep grape colourway that pushes the ground towards plum and purple.

Of the five colourways this is the richest, and the one that works best in a room with dark wood or heavy curtains. The mirrored birds and arching foliage stay legible because the pattern was designed for close looking: Morris expected people to live with it, not glance at it.
