Calvin Klein and DKNY Rugs: Fashion-House Minimalism for the Floor

Fashion and interiors have always borrowed from each other, and few names translate as naturally from wardrobe to home as Calvin Klein and DKNY. Both are associated with a pared-back, modern aesthetic: clean lines, a confident neutral palette and a focus on texture rather than ornament. Their rug collections carry that sensibility onto the floor, and they are a natural fit for anyone furnishing a contemporary home who wants something more considered than a plain rug.

The Calvin Klein look

The Calvin Klein collections are built around high-fashion neutrals and subtle, linear design. Where pattern appears, it tends to be abstract, crosshatched or softly blurred, and texture does much of the work. Several ranges use a high-low pile, where some areas sit slightly proud of others, giving depth that changes as light moves across the rug. Explore the full Calvin Klein collection.

  • Rush features crosshatched, abstract linear designs in neutrals and soft blues. The rugs are power-loomed in a polypropylene and polyester blend on a natural jute backing, with high-low detailing in the pile. See the Rush collection.
  • Enchanting brings an abstract floral to the range, with a high-low cut pile in soft tones such as grey and sky, and an easy-to-clean modern fibre blend. See the Enchanting collection.
  • Abyss is handwoven, so each rug has its own textural variations in a high-low pile, with a neutral palette and subtle linear design.

The range also includes Drift, Irradiant, Latitude, Linear, Sculptural, Summit and Wander, each with its own interpretation of the same quiet, modern language.

The DKNY look

DKNY's collections take their cue from New York, with a little more shimmer and a little more city energy. Many of the designs carry a silk-like sheen, and several collections, such as Central Park West, Grand Street and Madison Square, take their names from Manhattan. Browse the DKNY collection.

  • Central Park West has abstract, organic designs with a high-low cut pile and a shimmering finish, intended to bring a sense of calm movement. See Central Park West.
  • Grand Street includes diamonds, grids inspired by city blocks and hazy linear designs, all with a silk-like sheen in a low-profile, easy-care construction.
  • Madison Square pairs a silk-like sheen with short fringe edges in ivory, grey, slate and taupe.
  • Pure Knots is handmade with a plush, chunky loop texture in a polyester and wool blend.
  • Pure Angles is hand tufted in handspun, space-dyed wool with a loop pile.
  • Rows is a handwoven flat weave in a wool-rich blend, with a borderless design.

The variety in construction is worth noticing: from machine-made sheen to hand-tufted wool loops and handwoven flatweaves, there is a DKNY rug for very different rooms. Our guide to how rugs are made and why it matters explains the differences.

How to style a fashion-house rug

Keep the palette disciplined. These rugs are designed around neutrals, so they look best in rooms where colour is used sparingly: ivory, stone, charcoal, taupe, with perhaps a single accent. Our guide to making a neutral scheme feel rich is a useful companion.

Let texture lead. High-low piles, loops and sheen all reward good lighting. Place lamps so light rakes across the rug in the evening and the surface comes alive.

Match the mood to the room. The soft sheen of Central Park West or Grand Street suits a calm living room or bedroom; the chunky texture of Pure Knots is cosy underfoot; the flat weave of Rows works well under a dining table where chairs move in and out.

Mix in natural materials. Oak, linen, bouclé, stone and matte ceramics stop a minimal scheme feeling cold. It is the same balance we explore in Japandi and Scandinavian interiors.

Where they work best

  • Contemporary living rooms, where a quiet, textured rug grounds a modern sofa.
  • Bedrooms, where soft neutrals create a hotel-like calm.
  • Apartments and new builds, where clean architecture suits clean design.
  • Home offices, where a neutral rug softens the room without distraction.

A decorator's note

With minimal rugs, the subtle differences between colourways matter more than you might expect: an ivory with a grey cast and an ivory with a beige cast can look quite different against your walls. If you are deciding between two, send us a photograph of your room and our team will happily help you choose the one that sits best in your space.
